Winter storms can bring severe cold, snow, ice, and power outages. Preparation is vital to protect your property and ensure your safety.

How to Prepare for Blizzards:

  • Winterize Your Home: Insulate pipes, caulk windows, and weather-strip doors. Keep extra blankets and heating fuel.
  • Winterize Your Car: Keep the gas tank at least half full, carry a winter emergency kit, and check tire tread and antifreeze.
  • Emergency Kit Essentials: Add extra warm clothing, blankets, sand or kitty litter (for traction), and ice scrapers.
  • Power Outage Safety: Use generators outdoors only, never use ovens for heat, and keep flashlights and batteries handy.
  • During a Blizzard: Stay indoors, avoid travel, and listen to weather updates. If you must go outside, dress in layers and cover exposed skin.
